Australian wildlife - Please call for help!

A few weeks ago we received a call from a vet clinic in Rosebud needing care for a blue tongue lizard that wasn't quite right.

Unfortunately someone had found a wild Blue-tongued Lizard and decided to keep it as a pet It was housed incorrectly and fed an improper diet. When the blue tongue started acting strange they dropped it off at a vet clinic.

The vet clinic performed an X-ray revealing severe constipation, that was distorting its whole body. The blue tongue was lethargic and if left much longer would have passed away.

We organized a carer to collect the blue tongue and with several weeks of proper housing, a good diet, daily massage and warm baths the blue tongue thankfully passed all of the trapped poo!

A few more weeks in care to ensure the blue tongue was eating, pooing and acting normally it was able to be released.

Australian wildlife have very unique and at times complicated feeding and housing requirements. It is illegal to take and keep any Australian native wildlife from the wild. Housing or feeding them improperly can cause permanent damage or the death of an animal
