Heatwave

Heatwaves

This week will most likely mark the first of several heatwaves to hit Australia this summer. With the devastation of last summer’s bushfires we all need to be conscious of our wildlife and pets during these times.

All animals are affected differently, but they all can suffer terribly under extreme heat. What can we do to help give our fury and feathery friends some relief? There are lots of things we can do:

- Place bird baths around your yard. Freeze water bottles the night before and place them in the baths to keep them even cooler.

- Place containers around the perimeter of the yard or fence-line to provide water for reptiles.

- Or a bowl of water in the shade under your outdoor faucet.

- Give trees and shrubs a hose down morning and evening.

- Keep your pets inside where it’s nice and cool.

- Gently mist distressed animals with a very light spray of water or place a sprinkler nearby. With birds it’s best to spray their feet.

- Place water stations out for wildlife, https://www.google.com.au/.../Bushfire.../%3famp_page=true

Always make sure to pop a branch or stones into your bowl of water to give smaller animals/insects a way out and change the water when you can x

It’s a great project you and your family can do this summer to help protect and care for our native wildlife and pets
