How does Helping Hand Wildlife Shelter support wildlife and their habitat?
Primarily we care for animals who have been hit by cars or who have lost their parents. Spring and summer are incredibly busy with young chicks and possum joeys. Sometimes we can reunite them with parents which is great.
It is a real privilege that they allow us to help them at a time when they are so vulnerable. Each animal is precious so it’s bittersweet to release them, but I always feel very excited for them to be free again.
What advice would you give the public?
If you hit an animal with your car please stop and check to see if the animal needs help or if there is a baby and notify Warriors 4 Wildlife or Wildlife Victoria with exact location.
