How does Winki Wildlife Shelter support wildlife and their habitat?
Winki Wildlife Shelter provides exceptional care for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife across the Surf Coast and Geelong areas. Our dedicated team of passionate volunteers ensures every animal, no matter how small, receives the best treatment, love, and support.
We’re committed to rehabilitating wildlife and giving them a second chance in their natural habitat. At Winki, we go above and beyond to protect and nurture local wildlife, fostering hope and recovery for every creature in need.
How our project funding supported Winki’s Wildlife Shelter
Grant decided to use his funding for a new wildlife enclosure. It will have a floor tray and castors which will help with convenience of cleaning and moving around.
Grant also decided to get a cordless Ryobi saw. “The saw is already being used, as I'm modifying an aviary to be used as a soft release cage that is being fitted with a slide out food tray. The portability of a cordless saw is just what I needed. Lots of possum boxes to come very soon” Great work Grant!
There are many ways to help our wildlife by reporting injured and orphaned wildlife or donating so that we can continue our programs and provide ongoing support to wildlife shelters.
What can you do to help?

What advice would you give the public?
Caring for wildlife requires a big commitment, but it is very rewarding. It starts simply, with learning how to safely contain injured animals. All female marsupials have pouches, so doing pouch checks and safely removing joeys from the pouch can save a life. Everyone should learn basic wildlife rescue and transport.

Lend a paw by purchasing a Wombaroo Gift Voucher for Winki Wildlife Shelter.
For many wildlife rehabilitators, having access to life-saving food or equipment is often a necessity they struggle to afford. These dedicated individuals devote their lives to assisting wildlife, typically funding their efforts themselves and covering costs for baby formula, medicine, and supplies from their own pockets. Unfortunately, they receive little to no government support for their crucial work.
Gift vouchers make a significant difference for carers, whether it's purchasing a $20 Wombaroo voucher for a tiny joey or $1,000 voucher to support a mob of injured Kangaroo’s, every contribution plays a vital role in the recovery and survival of these precious creatures. By providing these vouchers, you empower rehabilitators to continue their invaluable work, offering second chances to animals in need.
