How does Wolfies Wildlife Shelter support wildlife and their habitat?
I became a carer after volunteering for an incredible shelter and seeing the good that can be done to help wildlife by individuals. Being a carer, and now running a shelter has inspired me to become a vet nurse - I graduate in November. I hope I can eventually be a vet nurse working to care for wildlife. I work closely with my carer Kat and my volunteers, Caitlyn and Rhys to do everything we can for wildlife in the Greater Geelong Area.
How our project funding supported Wolfie’s Wildlife Shelter
Alice from Wolfie’s wildlife shelter used her funding towards a new incubator.
‘This very special resident in my new incubator is a Gang Gang Cockatoo. She was assessed by an avian veterinarian as having a concussion and was cleared of any other injuries after full X-rays. She spent 3 days recovering in the ICU with pain relief prescribed by the vet and oral rehydration. She was then released back to her original location in Jan Juc.
Being able to keep her at a warm consistent temperature contributed to her recovery - being able to keep an animal at their preferred body temperature reduces the energy the body expends trying to keep warm and aids recovery. A very happy ending for a very special bird’.

What advice would you give the public?
Always call for advice if you see wildlife and you’re unsure if the behaviour is normal. The experts on the line will give you advice - no question is a stupid question and you might save a life.
