How does Bat Rescue Bayside support wildlife and their habitat?
It has a very busy year with many flying foxes coming into care due to starvation, barbed wire and netting entanglement. Earlier this year we were creching 65 pups an enormous amount compared to last year. We have also been busy with Tawny Frogmouths and possums all requiring veterinary checks as well as medications.
It is normally quiet this time of the year, however we have had an increased number of Flying-fox in care requiring "overwintering" needing enormous amounts of fresh fruit as well as medications and wound dressings.
How our project funding supported Bat Rescue Bayside
Bev from Bat Rescue Bayside, our October Spotlight was thrilled to receive her thousand dollar funding this week. Bev will be using the funding towards fuel for rescues, fruit and veg for her bats in care and materials to make more ‘mumma wraps’ for orphaned pups.
What can you do to help?
There are many ways to help our wildlife and we get lots of calls a week with concerned Members of Public wanting to help. You can do this by reporting injured and orphaned wildlife or donating funds so that we can continue our programs and provide ongoing support to wildlife shelters.
What advice would you give the public?
Our wildlife is protected please avoid feeding and taking them into care unless you are a trained and licensed carer.
