Flying Fox and Netting

Flying Foxes play a very important role in our ecosystem by dispersing seeds and pollinating flowering plants. Their high mobility helps spread seeds locally and over great distances giving plants a greater chance of survival and keeping our forests heathy.

That’s why we are happy about the new laws in Victoria regarding fruit tree netting Starting tomorrow a person must only use netting with a mesh size no greater than 5mm x 5mm at full stretch to protect household fruiting plants.

This will no doubt save the lives of many flying foxes and other animals that get caught in these nets. This juvenile and very adorable Flying Fox was one of the lucky ones to be rescued and was taken into care at a local shelter.
